Why choose Baden Baden
Baden Baden is a small city in South-West Germany that is very appealing to people due to its well known health spa resorts. "Baden" means "bath" in German, so Baden Baden is no doubt the ultimate spa-city in the world! Just joking, of course, but in every joke there's a grain of truth. This little city is a spa-tourist's heaven.
The natural water sources in the area are to blame for nowaday's status of this town. They have been famous for hundreds and hundreds of years, as even the Romans, in a time when the gigantic Roman Empire was dominating all other peoples, went there to take baths. Romans were famed for the way they emphasized the importance of washing regularely. They took baths on a daily basis, and even their slaves were doing it. Ordinary people and aristocrats met at the municipal spas to "wash away the hardship of daily hassle". What is now called Baden Baden was quite an important place to go for aristocratic Romans, due to the several splendid waters that surrounded the region. They were visiting the place in great numbers, wanting to heal their arthritic illnesses. Even the ruler Caracalla went there to ease his back pains. At that point in history, the settlement was given the name Aurelia Aquensis, which can be translated as "The Waters of Aurelius".
It was named Baden for the first time after the fall of the Roman Empire, at the dawn of the Middle Ages. In the 12th century it became the county town of the princedom of Baden, and it stayed like this until the 18th century. But in that interval, almost none of the people were bathing, and so, as a result, nobody knew Baden as a cool destination to bathe and unwind. Can't even conceive what the world was like without hygiene, let's just be glad it's over.
However, in the early years of the 19th century, Baden was seen again as what it truly is: a spa-city. Everybody noticed this fact when a Prussian queen went there to loosen up and heal her back.
From that moment on, they town's popularity increased continuously, and now it is considered quite a distinctive place for people who want to see a wonderful miniature town in a nice location, meet great people and use nature's power to become healthier.
The city has a population of roughly 60000 men and women, and it has anything you need to feel good and relax. Guests can do almost everything there: golf, tennis and horse racing are the most played activities of the area, so you'll see many of tennis courts and golf courts.
The surrounding area is great for outside sports like hiking, climbing and, in the winter, skiing.
There are innumerable intriguing places to see in this small, but adorable town: the courthouse, the casino, Festspielhaus, Theater and Kurhaus (the cultural and artistic attractions of the city), fascinating churches and medieval castles, nice parks and gardens. Sure, Baden Baden seems like a town in Fairy Tale Land, but the truth is that it's real and it's waiting for you!
