NFL Week 6: The Desperation Bowl Dallas vs Minnesota and The Rest

Miles Austin's leap frog of Roy Williams was a joke. Really NFL? I would not consider that excessive, if anything Austin should have been given a couple of points for the effort. The Miles Austin pass interference was the correct call, Austin did push off but that penalty is seldom called. Michael Irvin did a lot a worse back in his day. Tony Romo's two interceptions were not his fault, but they still hurt the team. The first interception was caused by Jared Allen who somehow got a free run no pun intended at Romo. Doug Free never looked in Allen's direction. If anyone should be blocked on every play it is Jared Allen. He has been to a few pro bowls. He is not some guy off the street. Romo's second interception occurred when linebacker E.J Henderson blitzed up the middle, stopped then dropped back into coverage and intercepted the ball intended to Romo's BFF Jason Witten. Percy Harvin's second half touchdown got the Vikings jump started in the second half. Isn't the Cowboy kicker's strength supposed to be kickoff touchbacks? Questionable play calling. But not when the Vikings had two or three defenders waiting for it. Lack of big plays on defense. The Cowboys are the only team who are more than happy to just get tackles. They don't even attempt to force fumbles by swiping or punching at the ball. With the score tied in the fourth quarter Michael Jenkins dropped another easy interception and possible pick six. That could have changed the momentum of the game back into the Cowboys favor. It was a good read on his part, but Jenkins can't catch a cold. Coach Wade Phillips will eventually be the fall guy unless the Cowboys can turn their season around. If I was him I'd start updating his resume'.
The Vikings weren't that impressive in their win. In fact they were much more impressive in the fourth quarter of the Jet game than in this game. If the Cowboys didn't self destruct, they would have lost this game too. But the old axiom in the NFL is a win is a win. Brett Farve got pummeled. He was wincing on several occasions after getting hit. The offense was held to less than two hundred yards. Some of it was the defensive schemes of the Cowboys. Their safeties were playing in Eden Prairie at times which prevented the big pass plays, but that should have allowed Anthony Peterson to have running room. He was held to less than three yards a carry. Their defense did force timely turnovers, and the kickoff return for a touchdown by Percy Harvin was clutch. The fact remains the Vikings have a good chance to win the division because the others teams are not very good like Detroit and Chicago, (how are they 4-2?) or beset by injuries Green Bay.
The Rest.
New England over Baltimore. The Patriots won by playing small ball. Short passes by Tom Brady to Deion Branch. I can't believe the Raven's defense didn't know that Randy Moss got traded two weeks ago. Is it me or have the Ravens played every game on the road?
Philadelphia over Atlanta. Kevin Kolb played like Peyton Manning filling in for Michael Vic. He if had played like this when the season started, he wouldn't be returning to the bench when Vic is healthy. Eagle's fans though will still blame Kolb for hanging out DeSean Jackson and letting him get blown up. Atlanta forgot to set their alarm clocks. They were down 21-0 before breakfast.
Pittsburgh over Cleveland. Ben Roethlisberger played well in his return. He showed good feel in the pocket and still has the great feet. Who knew working out with high school kids is better than training camp. Colt McCoy survived and played better than expected in his first start. Many predicated he wouldn't make it to halftime.
New York Giants over Detriot. The Giants did what they had to do, just win the game. The Lions did what many thought they would do, beat the point spread.
Seattle over Chicago. Matt Hasselbeck outplayed Jay Cutler. Of course that was easy to do because Cutler spent most of the game on his back. "The Bears are who they thought they were. And they will not win a game the rest of the season."
Miami over Green Bay. Miami played well enough to beat a team without half its starters. Green Bay is going to vote against the eighteen game season and vote for a return of the twelve game season
New Orleans over Tampa Bay. The Saints ran the ball like the Steelers of the 70's. Who is Chris Ivory? Tampa Bay came crashing back to earth. Too bad they are no longer in the old NFC north.
St Louis over San Diego. The Chargers are the second most disappointing team in the league behind Dallas. It must be the training camps in southern California. (Dallas spent part of their camp in Oxnard). The Rams have a good chance to win the division. Did Kurt Warner return?
New York Jets over Denver. Mark Sanchez threw his first two interceptions of the year, but his improvisation on the long pass to Santonio Holmes, which was called pass interference was huge. Joe Namath could not have done that.
San Francisco over Oakland. The 49ers won a game now Mike Singletary will let his players eat. Oakland has not won two games in a row since the Los Angeles Raider days.
